Someone Cares, Inc. of Atlanta (S1C) is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 community based organization.
Someone Cares was established in Jacksonville, Florida in 1996. S1C was formed to bring about a change in the growing number of HIV/AIDS cases reported in the African American MSM community (R.E.A.C.H.- Reaching, Educating, Assisting in, Community, Health) In 1998 Someone Cares re-established its headquarters in Marietta, Georgia (Cobb County) renamed Someone Cares, Inc. of Atlanta, serving the Atlanta Metropolitan area.
S1C has opened an office in Durham, North Carolina and Jacksonville, Florida serving the AA / Latino MSM communities.
S1C in 2008 established a Transgender program (R.E.A.L./T - Reaching, Educating, Assisting, and Liberating Transgender). The program was established to address health disparities and social needs, (Jobs, Education, and Housing) of the Transgender community. S1C was the first state funded organization to provide HIV prevention & interventions to the Transgender community.
S1C in 2009 created a MSM youth outreach program called H.Y.P.E. (Helping, Youth, with Prevention, and Empowerment) Peer Educators reach out to schools, night clubs, youth organizations, and their own social network to address the escalating number of HIV/STD between the ages of 16 & 24. Drop in center for youth is available.
S1C is proud to announce that in 2010 we opened the Early Detection Intervention Clinic to address the growing number of HIV/AIDS/STD cases reported each year and health disparities in the LGBTQ communities in the Metro-Atlanta area. Our main purpose is to provide health services to the African American & Latino MSM / Transgender communities, but we will be servicing the general population as well. S1C is now a “One Stop Shop” providing HIV/AIDS prevention, education, screening, treatment, and social services.
S1C has established the LGBTQ research center. (The S1C Southeastern Region LGBTQ "Think Tank") "Thinking beyond the walls, speaking their language" (2010)
In Fall 2010, S1C will open our GED program to increase the opportunity for job placement and advancement for higher education.
S1C is collaborating with other community based and civic organizations to increase awareness about HIV/AIDS/STD in the African American & Latino MSM / Transgender communities. S1C has created an environment that is conducive to the cultural aspects of a community that has been underserved.
